Beach Day on August 22nd!
Woohoo!! It’s that time of year again when we trade in our mats and heavy bags for some Santa Monica sand!
Each summer we take a break from the day-to-day and head to the Santa Monica Beach to hang out with fellow KMW Training Centers™ members, staff and instructors for some much needed fun in the sun.
There will be food, music and lots of great activities – including free surfing lessons, volleyball, soccer, and American football. Look for us under our new KMW Training Centers™ tent.
Time: August 22 · 10:00am – 3:00pm
Location: Santa Monica Beach @ Ocean Park Blvd (Lifeguard Station 26)
Fun Fact Friday: In 1981 Darren Levine Attended the First-Ever Krav Maga Instructor’s Course
Welcome to a new blog series called “Fun Fact Fridays.”
Each week we’ll feature one interesting, or fun, fact about Krav Maga Worldwide™ or KMW Training Centers™.
For this week’s fun fact I thought it would be fitting to start at the very beginning with Darren Levine, as well as share a recent video that was created for his popular Lecture & Seminar Series.
Today’s Fun Fact:
International Krav Maga Association Instructor’s Course
The Krav Maga Association of Israel and the Israeli Ministry of Education held the first International Instructor’s Course at Wingate Institute for Physical Education. A generous philanthropist in New York, S. Daniel Abraham, sponsored a delegation of 23 members from various cities in the United States to attend the course. This course was supervised by Imi himself, who was then 71 years old and retired from his military career. The course was taught by Krav Maga lead instructors Shike Barak, Eyal Yanilov, and Ruevin Moimon. Darren Levine was selected to be part of the delegation because of his martial arts and boxing background, as well as his involvement in the physical education program at the Heschel Day School near Los Angeles, California.
The course was a 6 week intensive course consisting of 8 + hours of training per day, six days a week. It was a strenuous and exhausting 6 weeks, and by the end of the course only a few people passed. Darren Levine was one of them.
