On this day, in 2006, we lost our dear friend Marni Levine.

Marni passed away at the young age of 37 after a long and courageous fight against cancer. Marni was a 4th degree black belt in Krav Maga and was the highest-ranking female instructor in the world.  She was a wife, a wonderful mother, a valiant and true friend. In addition to all that she was devoted to Krav Maga Worldwide and worked tirelessly to advance many aspects of its programs. Marni’s legacy will live on forever in what she has developed with Krav Maga Worldwide.  Her efforts continue to effect thousands of people daily.

Marni, you will be missed, but never forgotten!

Darren Levine’s Krav Maga Tactical Training Tip of the Day

Position of Disadvantage

Krav Maga self-defense techniques are almost always trained from a neutral position or from a position of disadvantage. While it’s certainly possible that a defender recognizes a threat early, training from a position of disadvantage (in the dark, with the emergence of an unknown threat or threats, while physically exhausted, with divided attention, having to make multiple tactical decisions in a correct sequence, functioning while injured or from a restricted position, etc.) is designed to inculcate in one a warrior spirit and skill sets that help one to overcome physical, emotional and spiritual obstacles.

Darren Levine is the Chief Instructor of Krav Maga Worldwide.  A 6th degree black belt, he is one of the highest-ranked Krav Maga instructors in the world and received extensive training directly from Imi Lichtenfeld, the creator of Krav Maga.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the Krav Maga system, Darren Levine received one of only two Founder Diplomas ever issued by Imi Lichtenfeld. An internationally recognized self-defense and counterterrorism expert, Darren Levine has taught thousands of civilians and police officers, as well as military special operation and anti-terrorist units in the United States and abroad.

Darren Levine serves as a Los Angeles County prosecutor and an assistant head deputy of the Target Crimes Division; he has been tasked with prosecuting the most violent crimes committed against law enforcement, including murders of on-duty peace officers. Levine has received numerous commendations, among them: National Co-Prosecutor of the Year 2004, National Association of District Attorneys; Los Angeles County Prosecutor of the Year, 2003 ADDA; and Distinguished Alumni Award, Loyola Law School.
